National Biogas Programme of Ethiopia, Phase II (NBPE+)

The second phase of Ethiopia's National Biogas Programme, implemented by SNV, aims to support market-driven installation of 18,000 household biogas plants for clean cooking and lighting, plus bio-slurry fertiliser. It builds on 8,161 plants installed under the programme's first phase (2009-2013).

Overview

Inside the project

The programme intends to support the market-driven installation of 18,000 high quality biogas plants, providing households with clean energy for cooking and lighting and promoting the use of bio-slurry as organic fertiliser.

Phase II builds on the 8,161 biogas plants installed under NBPE-I (2009-2013), also supported by SNV, and emphasises developing private-sector entrepreneurial skills in bio-digester construction.
