Inside the project
Iroko Restoration works in the Ndelele and Betare-Oya communal forests of Cameroon's East Region, part of the Congo Basin. It is a terrestrial rainforest restoration, distinct from the Cameroon coastal mangrove work already in this directory.
The project is led by Terraformation with the Centre Technique de la Foret Communale (CTFC) and Iroko Analytics, under an agreement with the Government of Cameroon. It is being developed to the Verra VM0047 ARR methodology, with Letters of Approval and Endorsement from Cameroon received in November 2025.
Beyond tree planting, the project pairs restoration with seed collection, restoration training and a new cacao agroforestry cooperative intended to give communities a durable stake in the restored landscape.
Objectives
- Restore approximately 14,000 hectares of degraded Congo Basin rainforest.
- Plant 15 million trees across 28 species, including biodiversity corridors.

- Build local capacity through seed collection, restoration training and a cacao agroforestry cooperative.
Approach
- Restore degraded rainforest in two communal forests under an agreement with the Government of Cameroon.
- Plant 15 million trees across 28 species and establish biodiversity corridors.
- Support seed collection, restoration training and a cacao agroforestry cooperative for local livelihoods.
