Overview

Inside the project

The programme frames its goal as relieving pressure on wild argan forest by shifting communities from a model of fruit collection from natural forests towards sustainable forest co-management.

Approved in October 2016 with an estimated completion of June 2028, it projects 604,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent avoided and resilience gains for 26,000 people.

Objectives

  • Plant 10,000 hectares of argan tree orchards with soil conservation and rainwater harvesting
  • Shift communities from wild-forest fruit collection to sustainable forest co-management

Approach

  • Argan orchards are planted with soil conservation and rainwater harvesting measures, shifting the local economic model from wild-forest fruit collection toward orchard-based sustainable forest co-management.
