Solar Lighting Project in Zambia
Namene Climate Investment Vehicle Limited distributes solar lights to Zambian households with no electricity connection, replacing what the Gold Standard Marketplace describes as dim and sooty kerosene lamps or candles. Carbon revenue subsidises the retail price by 50-70%, the mechanism the developer credits for reaching households that could not otherwise afford the lights.
Inside the project
Running since 2021, the project has distributed more than 600,000 lights and reports reaching more than a million people in Zambia, per the Gold Standard Marketplace listing.
It is registered on the Gold Standard Impact Registry (ID 1745), with credits from 2021-2023 vintages listed on the Gold Standard Marketplace.
