Visión Amazonía
Colombia's flagship jurisdictional REDD+ mechanism is a government-to-government results-based payment programme run by the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development with Norway, Germany and the United Kingdom as funders and Germany's KfW as guarantor.
Inside the project
Its own FAQ describes the logic plainly: a system that compensates a country's effort to reduce carbon dioxide equivalent emissions.
Set against a 2000-2012 baseline deforestation rate of 82,863 hectares a year across the 458,961 km2 Colombian Amazon biome, early results (2015-2016) credited the government with preventing roughly 7 million tonnes of CO2 and benefiting some 25,500 Indigenous and 12,200 farming families.
Objectives
- Reduce net deforestation to zero in the Colombian Amazon
- Deliver results-based payments against a 2000-2012 baseline
Approach
- A government-to-government results-based REDD+ payment mechanism against a 2000-2012 deforestation baseline.
