Landfill gas extraction on the landfill Villa Dominico

One of the earliest CDM landfill projects globally, registered in September 2005 at Buenos Aires' Villa Dominico landfill, was developed by the Netherlands' Van der Wiel Stortgas. It applies methodology AM0011 and reports an unusually large 588,889 tonnes of CO2 equivalent in estimated annual emission reductions.

Overview

Inside the project

The project recovers landfill gas with electricity generation, where methane capture and destruction would not otherwise occur under baseline conditions.

The International Finance Corporation, as trustee of the IFC-Netherlands Carbon Facility, and the Netherlands' own infrastructure ministry were both named participants, though both have since withdrawn from the project.
