SNV Vietnam Biogas Programme

Founded in 2003 with SNV as lead implementer and Vietnam's Department of Livestock Production as government partner, this programme built domestic biogas digesters converting animal manure and human waste to energy across 55 provinces and cities. Its own reporting, through March 2017, states 158,500 digesters built and 790,000 people reaching energy access.

Overview

Inside the project

Biogas technology can convert animal manure and human excreta into a renewable, reliable and affordable source of energy.

The programme reports 2,500-plus new jobs created, 1,700 biogas masons trained, 800,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent reduced annually, and 1,290,876 carbon credits awarded under the Gold Standard for 2013-2015.
