Spiro electric motorcycles and battery swapping
Spiro sells electric motorcycles and operates battery-swap infrastructure. Its 22 June 2026 announcement reports 100,000 vehicles and 2,500 swap stations across seven markets. These are company figures, distinct from the earlier October 2025 deployment account.

Inside the project
The October 2025 announcement described commercial operations in six countries and pilots in Tanzania and Cameroon. The June 2026 update reports deployment across seven markets without resolving every country’s operational status.
The earlier end-2025 vehicle target is superseded here by the company’s dated June 2026 deployment account.
On 22 June 2026, Spiro reported closing a US$270 million funding round following a US$55 million NewTrails Capital investment. Its deployment totals are company-reported. The new round is not added to earlier announcements because possible overlap has not been reconciled.
Objectives
- Replace petrol motorcycle taxis with electric motorcycles
- Expand the battery-swap network supporting electric mobility
Approach
- Riders swap a depleted battery for a charged one at a station instead of charging, which keeps motorcycle taxis on the road through the day.
