Reforestation & agroforestryStatus under review

Restore Africa

Restore Africa was launched in 2022 as a community-led restoration programme across six African countries. Its lead organisation entered liquidation on 2 July 2026, according to FTI Consulting. The status of delivery in each country needs renewed confirmation.

Overview

Inside the project

Status checked 17 September 2026: FTI Consulting’s public appointment table lists Global Evergreening Alliance Limited in liquidation from 2 July 2026, following voluntary administration from 23 March 2026. This does not establish that every local restoration activity has stopped.

The programme’s original design targeted 1.9 million hectares and 1.5 million farming families across Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. These are launch ambitions, not verified delivery totals.

Earlier programme materials described a US$150 million financing package involving Climate Asset Management and country consortia of NGOs. Those historical announcements do not establish current funding availability, disbursement or credit revenue.

Country-level continuity, the status of participating organisations and the carbon-credit pathway remain under review. Historical programme partners are retained below with dated context.

Objectives

  • Original objective: regenerate degraded farmland through farmer-managed natural regeneration and agroforestry.
  • Original objective: improve participating smallholders’ livelihoods.
  • Original objective: use carbon finance to support restoration and community benefits; current arrangements require confirmation.

Approach

  • The programme was designed around farmers protecting and managing naturally regenerating trees on agricultural land.
  • Historical delivery plans relied on country consortia of NGOs. The lead organisation’s liquidation makes renewed country-by-country checks necessary.
