Overview

Inside the project

The project aims to restore or stabilise 33,200 hectares through forestry and agroforestry, and to develop 2,450 hectares of private land through agroforestry, forestry and aromatic and medicinal plant sub-projects.

The Tunisian government contributes USD 6.06 million and beneficiaries USD 660,000. The bank expects the project to create about 4,500 green jobs in the three governorates and to train 42,000 people in sustainable practices.

The bank links the project to Tunisia's sustainable development strategy to 2030 and its commitment to cut carbon intensity by 45% by 2030. At launch no results had been reported.

Objectives

  • Restore or stabilise degraded forest landscapes on state land
  • Bring agroforestry and high-value crops onto degraded private land at the forest edge
  • Create rural green jobs and value chains in Béja, Siliana and Bizerte

Approach

  • The state and farmers work in partnership on degraded private land around state forests, combining ecological restoration with crops that earn an income.
  • Sub-projects on private land cover agroforestry, forestry, and aromatic and medicinal plants, organised around value chains.
