Osun State Reforestation
At COP28 in Dubai, Nigeria's National Council on Climate Change signed an agreement with aDryada and its local partner Noblesse Green Energy to develop carbon projects in two states, including the reforestation of around 20,000 hectares in Osun State.

Inside the project
The Osun State project is one half of an aDryada memorandum of understanding announced at COP28 in December 2023, alongside a larger mangrove effort in Cross River State. It targets the reforestation of roughly 20,000 hectares of degraded land in southwestern Nigeria.
aDryada acts as the nature-based project developer, with Noblesse Green Energy as the Nigerian partner and the National Council on Climate Change and Osun State authorities on the government side. The project is at an early, pre-issuance stage: an agreement to develop, not yet a registered crediting project.
It fits aDryada's model of large-scale removal projects developed on long-term land commitments, with certification pursued during the development phase and revenue coming only from carbon-removal credits.
Objectives
- Reforest around 20,000 hectares of degraded land in Osun State
- Establish long-term land commitments for permanence
- Deliver community benefits alongside carbon removals
- Develop certified removal credits under a recognised standard
Approach
- Announced as a state-level agreement rather than a registered project, the work follows aDryada's five-stage lifecycle of origination, feasibility, design, implementation and credit sales, with certification initiated during development.
- Permanence is designed around multi-decade land commitments, and the project is structured to earn revenue solely from verified carbon removals.
