NovaGerar Landfill Gas to Energy Project
NovaGerar covers two adjacent sites, the closed Marambaia dump (700,000 tonnes of waste, closed February 2003) and the operating Adrianópolis landfill (roughly 4,000 tonnes a day), near a population of 800,000 in Nova Iguaçu, Rio de Janeiro state.

Overview
Inside the project
The project involved investments in a gas collection system, leachate drainage system, and a future modular power generation plant, with power generation ultimately installed at Adrianópolis in 2019 once Marambaia's gas was largely depleted.
This is a long-running project spanning over a decade between registration-era investment and its eventual power-generation build-out.

Objectives
- Collect landfill gas across two adjacent sites
- Install modular power generation at Adrianópolis
Approach
- Gas collection and leachate drainage systems were installed at both sites, with a modular power generation plant added at Adrianópolis in 2019.
