India: Efficient Wood Gas Stoves (Sunderbans)
In the Sunderbans of West Bengal, home to the world's largest mangrove ecosystem, Servals Automation's TLUD gasifier stoves, distributed with Kolkata-based Sapient Infotech and financed through atmosfair, cut firewood consumption by 50% compared with traditional mud stoves while producing charcoal as a byproduct.

Inside the project
The Sundarbans in West Bengal are the world's largest mangrove ecosystem, where the TLUD gasifier stoves cut firewood consumption by 50% compared to traditional mud stoves while producing charcoal as a byproduct.
The project is registered under a CDM Programme of Activities plus two Gold Standard micro-scale projects, crediting roughly 640,000 tonnes CO2 per year at the PoA scale; a 5,000th stove was ceremonially handed over in June 2023, and over 300 new jobs are reported.
Objectives
- Cut firewood consumption in the Sunderbans by half
- Register emissions reductions under CDM and Gold Standard
Approach
- Servals Automation manufactures the TLUD gasifier stoves; Sapient Infotech implements distribution locally, financed through atmosfair.
