ONIL Stove Programme, Guatemala

HELPS International's ONIL stove is described on its own award page as a safe, efficient and durable wood-burning cooking stove for use in Guatemala, developed to cut smoke exposure and deforestation pressure. By 2009 the organisation reported 106,000 stoves in roughly 80,000 households and factories in Guatemala and Mexico.

Overview

Inside the project

The ONIL is a "safe, efficient and durable wood burning cooking stove for use in Guatemala," developed to address health hazards from open cooking fires and deforestation.

By 2009, HELPS International reported 106,000 ONIL stoves installed across approximately 80,000 households, over 600,000 people benefited, and CO2 savings of approximately 320,000 tonnes annually, from two factories in Guatemala and one in Mexico.
