Drawa Rainforest Project (REDD+ Drawa Forest Project)
Fiji's first indigenous-owned carbon-credit project, run by the Drawa Block Forest Communities Cooperative on Vanua Levu since 2012 and coordinated by Nakau.
Inside the project
It protects 4,120 hectares of tropical rainforest, of which 1,723 hectares are eligible for crediting, under the Plan Vivo standard.
A handful of local chiefs formed the cooperative, which generates roughly 18,800 credits a year and has issued 132,280 Plan Vivo Certificates to date.
The annual report submitted on 10 December 2024 distinguishes Nakau and Live & Learn Fiji as coordinators from the local cooperative’s implementation role. It describes future methodology and area changes; their completion was not established in this check. Plan Vivo distinguishes verified reporting periods from other annual reports.
