Inside the project
ArBolivia, operated by Sicirec with Trees for All, works with around 2,000 smallholder families across the Santa Cruz, La Paz, Beni and Cochabamba departments of Bolivia.
Families transition from monoculture and cattle ranching to agroforestry, intercropping indigenous trees with coffee, cocoa and Brazil nut to restore degraded soils and build biodiversity corridors.
Trees for All cites roughly 250,000 tonnes of CO2 removal per year from the project, which is certified under the Plan Vivo standard.
Objectives
- Support around 2,000 smallholder families in shifting to agroforestry livelihoods.
- Restore degraded soils and re-establish biodiversity corridors with indigenous tree species.
- Deliver certified carbon removals under the Plan Vivo standard.
Approach
- Intercrop indigenous trees with coffee, cocoa and Brazil nut on former monoculture and pasture land.
- Replace cattle ranching with agroforestry to restore soils and connect biodiversity corridors.
- Certify under Plan Vivo, tying credits to smallholder livelihood outcomes.
